Luman Proofreading
Add an intelligent editorial check to your publishing workflow.
Luman Proofreading helps publishing teams identify consistency issues, repetition, punctuation problems, style concerns and other common editorial errors before publication, in multiple languages.
What It Does
An intelligent editorial pass designed for professional publishing workflows.
Luman checks for issues that are time-consuming to catch manually — consistency, repetition, punctuation, formatting irregularities, style guide concerns, and common editorial problems — in multiple languages, calibrated to your house style.
See It Work
A proofreading pass, in action.
A short manuscript paragraph showing the kinds of issues Luman flags. Hover or tap a highlight to see what type of issue it is and the suggested correction — with your team always in control of the final decision.
The light fell across the room in long, ed bands, settling on the spines of the books along the far wall. It was just past nine in the the house had not yet woken. — she thought, watching the light shift — this was the kind of quiet that she had spent years searching for. Soon enough, would arrive at the door and the day would begin in earnest.
Spelling drift detected. Earlier in the manuscript "color" was used; this is the first instance of the British spelling. Choose one and apply throughout.
Your team stays in control. Luman flags. Editors decide.
What You Receive
A clear, structured report — not a mystery file.
Every pass produces a structured deliverable designed to drop into an editorial review. Cover page, track-changes view, and a per-category summary — ready to share with your team.

When To Use It
Four trigger points in a publishing schedule.
Luman slots into the moments where catching an issue costs the least — or the moments where missing one costs the most. Use one stage, several, or all four.
- Stage 1
Pre-acquisition
Manuscript assessed before commitment. Luman flags consistency and quality issues that affect the offer.
- Stage 2
Pre-typesetting
Final editorial pass before the file reaches layout. Catches the issues that cost most to fix after design.
- Stage 3
Pre-translation
Source manuscript cleaned before translation begins. Avoids re-translating around source-side errors.
- Stage 4
Pre-republication
Older backlist files prepared for re-release. Brings inherited inconsistencies up to current house standard.
How It Works
Five steps from upload to clean file.
- 01
Upload your manuscript
Upload the file you want to check. Common publishing formats supported.
- 02
Upload your house style
Embed your editorial house style before running results so checks reflect your conventions.
- 03
Review suggested issues
Luman identifies potential errors, inconsistencies and style concerns across the manuscript.
- 04
Keep editorial control
Your team reviews the suggestions and decides what to accept, amend or ignore.
- 05
Download or continue
Download the reviewed output or continue into translation or publication preparation.
Our Philosophy
Luman flags. Editors decide.
Nothing Luman surfaces is auto-applied. Every suggestion is a decision point for your editorial team — accept, amend, or ignore. Here’s what that looks like on a single page of the manuscript.
Luman flagged
- Consistency“color” → “colour”
- Repetition“beautifully” × 4
- Punctuationcomma → semicolon
- Style“very unique”
- House style“OK” → “okay”
Editor decided
- AcceptedHouse style is UK English.
- AmendedKept two instances; rewrote the others.
- AcceptedIndependent clauses, semicolon correct here.
- IgnoredCharacter voice — narrator is unreliable.
- AcceptedNarrative line, not dialogue.
“Built to support editors, not replace them.”
Every flag Luman surfaces is reviewable. Every output is decided by your team. Luman is a faster, more consistent first pass — not a replacement for professional editorial judgement.
Use Proofreading on its own or as part of a wider publishing process.
A manuscript can be analysed through Manuscript Intelligence, checked through Proofreading, then translated through Luman Translation with a cleaner source file.
Pricing
Subscription pricing for regular manuscript volume.
Add an intelligent editorial pass without slowing your workflow — a first pass, a final consistency check, or an additional quality-control layer before human review.
Custom enterprise plans are available for larger teams, multi-imprint publishers and high-volume workflows. Pricing reflects manuscript volume, languages required, house-style complexity and turnaround.
Security & IP
Your manuscripts stay yours.
For a publisher, a manuscript is the asset. Luman is built so that handing one over never means giving anything up.
Never used to train models
Luman does not use your manuscripts, outputs or reports to train, fine-tune or improve its own AI systems. Where third-party providers are involved, we select business, enterprise or API terms that do not permit your content to train their models.
You keep your rights
Luman claims no ownership of what you upload, and unpublished work is treated as confidential. For translations, the rights in the output are assigned to you on full payment.
Confidential by default
Unpublished manuscripts, files and outputs are processed only to deliver the service you asked for. Request deletion at any time, and enterprise teams can add a Data Processing Agreement.
